BT Home Hub 5 0 Type A
Table of Content
Since hardware version 5 of the Home Hub was released in August 2013 it includes its own VDSL2 modem for Fibre-optic connections. Prior to release of the Home Hub (2004–2005), BT offered a product based on the 2Wire 1800HG, and manufactured by 2Wire. This was described as the "BT Wireless Hub 1800HG", or in some documentation as the "BT Wireless Home Hub 1800".
Neither is there any media-server facility nor any form of user-configurable QoS settings. WPS has since been disabled by firmware updates due to security issues with the standard. The Home Hub 5 may look almost identical to the previous model (it's still compact and stylish) but a number of features make this a good upgrade for BT Broadband customers. It's one of the cheapest 11ac routers we've seen and it comes with performance... Alex is a journalist who has written extensively about all things broadband, SIMs and phone contracts, as well as scouring the internet to land you the best prices on the very latest in gadgets and tech. Which BT hub do I have?
See the download table above for how to get serial access in 10 minutes WITHOUT soldering or you can solder a few wires to SMD solder points . Hands on reviews' are a journalist's first impressions of a piece of kit based on spending some time with it. The important thing is we have been able to play with it ourselves and can give you some sense of what it's like to use, even if it's only an embryonic view. Furthermore, the instructions are printed on the inside of the box and BT encourages its existing users to recycle their old routers by shipping them back in said packaging.
Unlike TalkTalk’s Super Router, which also delivers 802.11ac, BT’s router can hold its head high. Despite these points we have to say getting the Home Hub 5 up and running is very easy and even technophobes shouldn’t worry. The router’s user interface isn’t the most advanced we’ve seen and won’t give Linksys’ industry leading ‘Smart WiFi’ sleepless nights, but it is simple to navigate. BT also deserves credit for shipping the Home Hub 5 with a long 2m power cable, which gives a lot of flexibility when it comes to positioning the router. Linksys and Asus are leading the way here with routers that have no password but make you pick one in the setup wizard. That makes far more sense to us, though BT’s approach is consistent with previous Home Hub’s.
Differences between each Hub
It calls using the BT Broadband Talk service, and may sit in a dock in the front of the Home Hub or be used on its own stand. It uses Hi-def sound technology when calls between Hub Phones are made. As for why you should upgrade, the BT Smart Hub 2 monitors your connection and reboots if there's a problem, works through an app to monitor performance, provides 7 antennas to maximise power, filters out interference and more.
If LuCI lists seven ports (Port 0 – Port 5 + CPU), it's probably using the swconfig numbering and ignoring /etc/board.json. On the bright side, you don't need to edit anything to make use of the WAN port. Select 'Custom Interface' and enter 'ptm0.101' or 'dsl0.101' for LEDE 17 and OpenWrt 18 respectively to set vlan 101 for BT Openreach network compatibility. In some cases, it may be the case that USB port does not provide enough power to run a portable HDD or even a USB stick. As it has been tested there also seems to be a reboot issue when hot-plugging a USB device. This issue is related to low power output from the USB port although the supplied power adapter provides more than enough juice for the router.
Re: Home Hub 5 Radius Support
For a wired connection, connect an Ethernet cable from your device to one of the yellow LAN ports . Although wired connections can be faster than wireless, they’re not always convenient so choose the option that best suits your needs. The security of the BT Home Hub has been questioned by GNUCITIZEN. In October 2007, Adrian Pastor warned the security and BT Broadband community regarding critical vulnerabilities he discovered in the Home Hub. The details of such research were released later in November 2007 and demonstrated how to fully compromise on the BT Home Hub by tricking a BT Home Hub user to visit a webpage crafted by the attacker. There are two versions of the BT Home Hub 2.0, the A and the B model. The hardware contained within the Home Hub 2.0A was manufactured by Thomson SpeedTouch, who had bought out Inventel and all their hardware and software rights.
After 29 January 2011, BT Broadband Talk was no longer provided as part of BT's broadband packages. There are two versions of the BT Home Hub 3, the A and the B model. The hardware contained within the Home Hub 3A was manufactured by Siemens' Gigaset division and is based on a Lantiq XWAYTM ARX168 chipset supporting ADSL2+.
It comes with 5 antennas, Dual AC Wi-Fi, 4 giga ethernet connections, USB Ports and like all of the other hubs from BT, Smart Wireless and Smart Scan. While it no longer comes with any BT broadband deals, many people will have one from older plans. The simple user interface makes setup and maintenance easy, but features are limited. Although BT has its own network-level parental-controls tool, the router itself can only block certain devices at specified times.
Just be aware that you will need the WAN-enabled version to make the most out of it. Sadly, we couldn't fully test the Smart Hub; as a Virgin Media customer, we had the wrong type of router sent to us – not that this was anyone's fault. We did manage to open up the device but failed to recognise or indeed log any meaningful indicators except for the character string RTV1906VW-D18.
We also expect our journalists to follow clear ethical standards in their work. Our staff members must strive for honesty and accuracy in everything they do. We follow the IPSO Editors’ code of practice to underpin these standards. In addition the Home Hub 5 also makes the leap to 802.11ac wireless.
Now you need two wires for the input connection, one for +ve and other one is ground. Ground can be linked from any metal holders, just like the USB outer-panel. The +ve wire needs to come from the power adapter, for this to work properly use the middle pin on the power switch. This way when you power off the device the USB power will be switched off. Once you have connected the wires for input, you only need +ve wire from the circuit output and connect it to the USB +ve, from where we removed the L9 component. Be sure to connect directly to USB +ve and not to the IC +ve output.
The middleware was developed by Jungo, a subsidiary of NDS, and is based on their openRGTM product. Come to think of it this is exactly why I don't have a BT router. Our expert reviewers spend hours testing and comparing products and services so you can choose the best for you. Below we've broken down each BT router so you can figure out which one you have and what the benefits of each one are.
